Marcia Getto

Upon early retirement in 2008, I had time to travel and pursue my love of photography and art with an initial focus on landscapes, nature and travel places. During that time, my projects have evolved from realistic imagery to more expressive and contemplative work. My goal is to leave a thought-provoking impression on the viewer rather than to provide a representative view of what has already been often photographed. With that in mind, it was a natural progression to expand my artistic exploration via paper arts including handmade books, cartonnage and paper weavings.

It was an honor to participate in the BGF exhibit at Madison's Overture Center in 2026. My contribution to the exhibit, "Rebirth of the Prairie Ecosystem", was a series of twelve paper weavings that told a brief story of prescribed prairie burns.

Recent recognition in local exhibits includes Juror's First Choice award (2022) and the Photography First Place award (2023) awarded by the Madison (WI) Art Guild's Summer Salon. My photography has also received numerous local, national, and international recognition in solo and group exhibits and publications.
